Israel vows to answer terror with death
TEL AVIV — Israel threatened to target more high-level Palestinian militants yesterday, one day after helicopter missiles killed a Hamas leader and while thousands of Palestinians marching at his funeral vowed revenge.
Israel fired at three Palestinian militants taking refuge on a hospital rooftop in the West Bank city of Nablus, killing one of them. Israeli officials said the three men were wanted in connection with a suicide attacks earlier this month.
On the diplomatic front, an adviser to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak engaged in a round of shuttle diplomacy aimed at resuscitating the wounded U.S. peace initiative.
Palestinian leaders said the killing of Ismail Abu Shanab, a top aide to Hamas chief Ahmed Yassin, ruined an imminent campaign against militants by Palestinian security forces that would have included arrests and weapons roundups.

King son: More work needed on civil rights
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Forty years after Martin Luther King Jr. eloquently captured the struggle of black Americans for equality, civil rights activists called Saturday for his dream to finally be realized.
His vision of a land where little black boys and girls in the South would one day hold hands with little white boys and girls was remembered by thousands of people who gathered on a warm summer day to celebrate King's "I Have a Dream" speech.
"Despite the progress we've made during the last four decades, people of color are still being denied a fair share of employment and educational opportunities in our society," said his son, Martin Luther King III.

Geoghan killed in prison
Former priest John Geoghan, a notorious pedophile whose case sparked the clergy molestation scandal of the past 18 months, died this afternoon after being attacked at the state prison in Shirley.
``The perpetrator has been isolated,'' said Kelly Nantell, a spokeswoman for the state Deparment of Corrections.
``Our investigation continues,'' she said.
The matter has been referred to the Middlesex County District Attorney Martha Coakley's office.
Geoghan was serving a nine-to-10 year sentence at MCI Shirley for allegedly groping a boy at a Waltham swimming pool.
More than 140 people have claimed they were abused by Geoghan, claiming they were fondled or raped at locations ranging from church rectories to their own homes.
Geoghan would become one the most notorious pedophiles in the country - not only for the extent of his rampage against children but because relevations about his case led to the unraveling of secrecy within the Archdiocese of Boston.
